Mass Save rebate checklist before you hire a contractor
Before you buy equipment or sign a home improvement quote, slow down and verify the rebate path. A few questions up front can prevent missed paperwork, ineligible equipment, or work done in the wrong order.
Disclosure: Get Rebate Ready is not Mass Save, a utility, government agency, rebate administrator, tax advisor, or contractor. This checklist is informational only.
Before you sign
- Which exact rebate or financing program are we relying on?
- Does my ZIP code, utility, heating fuel, income status, or home type affect eligibility?
- Is a home energy assessment required before installation?
- Does the product model meet current efficiency requirements?
- Does the contractor participate in the required installer network?
- Who submits the application, and what documents will I receive?
- What happens if the rebate is denied or program funding changes?
Documents to collect before applying
Before work starts, create a simple folder for the project. Rebate applications are easier to review when the quote, invoice, model details, and program paperwork all match.
- Utility account information and the project property address.
- Before-work photos if the program or contractor requests them.
- Signed quote or proposal with scope, model numbers, and rebate assumptions.
- Final paid invoice showing installed equipment or weatherization work.
- Qualified product list confirmation, AHRI certificate, or efficiency documentation when applicable.
- Home energy assessment, weatherization, integrated control, or verification forms if required.
- Contractor license, installer-network status, and who is responsible for submitting the rebate.
